Takaichi Acknowledges Yen's Impact on US Trade
Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi recently revealed that she was told by US President Donald Trump during their talks in New York last month that the weakness of the yen is hurting American trade.
Takaichi made these comments in an exclusive interview with NTV, a Japanese broadcaster. When asked about whether the US and Japan are aligned on tackling the currency's weakness, she responded by saying 'At the Japan-US leadership meeting, they spoke of the difficulties American trade is facing due to the weak yen, to which I responded that as a rule of thumb an undervalued yen is a problem.'
This statement suggests that the US is expressing concerns about the impact of a weak yen on their trade. Takaichi's response implies that she shares these concerns and acknowledges the issue.
