Takaichi Admits Weak Yen Harms US Trade
Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi recently met with US President Donald Trump in New York, where they discussed trade difficulties caused by a weak yen exchange rate.
Takaichi acknowledged that the undervalued Japanese currency is a problem and that Japan's economic policy has been understood by the American side without demands for changes.
US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent has repeatedly suggested that the Bank of Japan raise interest rates to reach an appropriate yen exchange rate, but Japanese officials have downplayed the impact of US statements on their decision-making.
