Takaichi Defends Yen-Boosting Policies Amid Slumping Approval Ratings
Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi is defending her government's policies as essential for boosting the yen, despite rising costs of living and a slump in her approval ratings. In parliament on Monday, Takaichi stated that market trust in the yen would increase if Japan's economy were to grow through strengthening its competitiveness.
Takaichi also emphasized the importance of collaboration between the government and the Bank of Japan on economic policy, citing laws that require close coordination. She added that exchange rates are influenced by various factors and cannot be directly gauged.
The Prime Minister's approval ratings have dropped to 57% in a recent poll, down from 69% in June, with 34% disapproving of her administration. The rising costs of living due to the weak yen have been cited as a key factor contributing to this decline.
