Takaichi Vows to Bolster Yen Confidence through Economic Competitiveness
Japan's Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi has emphasized the importance of boosting economic competitiveness in ensuring market confidence in the yen.
In a recorded interview with Nippon Television, Takaichi stated that her administration aims to increase Japan's growth potential through investment in crisis management and key sectors, thereby enhancing global competitiveness and stabilizing the yen.
Takaichi also confirmed that she had informed US President Donald Trump about Japan's concerns regarding the yen's undervaluation during their meeting last month. She highlighted that her government's economic policy is not focused on manipulating exchange rates, but rather on promoting sustainable growth and a strong economy.
The Japanese Prime Minister further noted that US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent had expressed support for Japan's economic stance and did not demand any specific changes during his meeting with Finance Minister Satsuki Katayama on August 31.
