Taranaki Trust Works to Protect Vulnerable Native Species
The Rotokare Scenic Reserve Trust in Taranaki is working tirelessly to achieve ecological restoration and protect vulnerable native species. The trust's mission is to restore the indigenous ecosystem at Rotokare Scenic Reserve, which serves as a sanctuary for species reintroduction. Recently, hihi, tieke, pāteke, titipounamu, and North Island Brown kiwi have been introduced to the reserve.
The reserve has a foundation population of North Island Brown kiwi that are successfully breeding, providing a basis for repopulating other locations in the region with pest control. The trust is open to the community 24/7, allowing for various recreational activities such as walking, bird watching, and swimming.
The Rotokare Scenic Reserve Trust relies on generous support from the community to continue their efforts in protecting native species and ensuring ecological restoration. Every dollar donated will go towards predator control and species monitoring at the reserve.
