TikTok Fuels NZ Economy by Over $1 Billion
A new report from Infometrics reveals that TikTok has had a significant impact on New Zealand's economy. In 2025, the platform contributed to over 9,700 jobs and $1.2 billion in GDP.
The report found that around half of Kiwi businesses use TikTok each month to promote themselves and connect with customers. This has resulted in an estimated 671,000 New Zealanders visiting restaurants and cafes, purchasing goods or services, attending cultural or sporting events, or visiting somewhere new after discovering it on TikTok.
The median self-reported sales uplift from TikTok activity is 20-30%, with an average uplift of 24%. Businesses of all sizes have embraced the platform, including those that started in the last five years and long-established national retailers like The Warehouse.
TikTok's Chief Executive & Principal Economist, Brad Olsen, said the platform has helped boost the country's economic recovery. 'TikTok's economic contribution to New Zealand is substantial, and the breadth of businesses that use the platform - around half of Kiwi businesses - and generate activity based on that use is remarkable.'
