Tokyo Stocks Bounce Higher on Broad Buying
Tokyo stocks began the day on May 7 higher due to buying across various sectors. Artificial intelligence and semiconductor-related shares were among those leading the gains.
The Nikkei Stock Average rose by 317.35 points, or 0.48 percent, from Thursday to 65,831.34 in the first 15 minutes of trading. The Topix index was up 34.79 points, or 0.85 percent, at 4,110.09.
The main gainers on the Prime Market were bank, mining, and securities house issues. The U.S. dollar traded at 158.84-85 yen at 9 a.m., compared to 158.82-92 yen in New York and 158.20-23 yen in Tokyo at 5 p.m. Thursday.
