Tokyo Stocks Plummet on US-Iran Uncertainty and Waning Dividend Buying
Tokyo stocks experienced a decline on Tuesday morning due to uncertainty surrounding the US-Iran conflict and waning dividend-driven buying.
The Nikkei Stock Average dropped by 570.62 points, or 0.87 percent, from Monday to 65,307.00, while the broader Topix index decreased by 62.66 points, or 1.52 percent, to 4,049.34.
The US dollar traded in the lower- to mid-157 yen range in Tokyo after rebounding in New York from a significant plunge triggered by Japan's top currency diplomat Atsushi Mimura's signal to act against excessive depreciation of the yen.
