Trump Admin Weighs Stablecoin Plan to Boost Dollar Dominance
The Trump administration is considering a plan to promote the use of dollar-backed stablecoins overseas. The aim is to boost the dollar's dominance and increase demand for U.S. Treasury securities.
According to Bloomberg, the plan involves joint ventures with private companies to promote the use of USD-pegged stablecoins globally. This could cement the dollar's stature as the premier global reserve currency.
The International Monetary Fund has warned that widespread adoption of stablecoins could accelerate capital flight and weaken domestic currencies in emerging economies.
Stablecoin issuers, such as USDT and USDC, are already among the top 20 holders of U.S. sovereign debt, with aggregate holdings approaching $200 billion.
