Trump Calls Federal Reserve Decision 'Very Political'
US President Donald Trump has expressed his dissatisfaction with the Federal Reserve's recent decision to raise interest rates. In an interview published by Time Magazine, Trump said that he would have voted against the rate hike if he were a member of the Fed's board.
'I probably would have voted against the board if I were him,' Trump stated, referring to his opinion on Kevin Warsh's decision not to vote against the rate increase. The rate hike was announced last month and marked a departure from the president's long-standing call for lower borrowing costs.
Trump has been critical of the Fed under Chairman Jerome Powell, whom he had appointed, but has maintained that he still retains confidence in his hand-picked chair. Instead, Trump attributes the Fed's decision to a 'very political' board, stating that they are motivated by their opposition to him rather than a genuine concern for economic policy.
