President Donald Trump revealed on Sunday that Japan had requested US currency intervention to support the weakening yen. He described this action as a 'signal of friendship' between the two countries, which he believes also benefits the US and global economies.

'Because we have a good relationship with Japan,' Trump explained on Air Force One. 'We're very strong financially. They are weakening their currency, and they wanted a little bit of help.'

Trump's statement comes after US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent confirmed the joint currency intervention on Friday. According to Bessent, it was done to 'counter disorderly yen movements.' He added that the US will not hesitate to conduct further joint interventions with Japan.
