Trump Criticizes Fed's Rate Hike Decision, Blames 'Politically Motivated' Board
President Donald Trump recently expressed his thoughts on Federal Reserve Chairman Kevin Warsh's decision to vote in favor of raising interest rates last month. In an interview with Time Magazine, Trump stated that he doesn't blame Warsh for the central bank's decision, but rather would have voted against it himself if he were in Warsh's position.
'I don't blame Kevin Warsh,' Trump said. 'I probably would have voted against the board if I were him.'
Trump has long been a proponent of lower borrowing costs, and was disappointed when the Fed voted to raise interest rates by a quarter percentage point last month. The move is aimed at containing inflation, but Trump believes it will have negative consequences for the economy.
