Trump Defends Tariffs as He Touts Economic Growth in Michigan
President Donald Trump visited Michigan on Monday to tout his economic policies and defend his tariffs, which he believes have boosted auto manufacturing in the state. During a tour of a General Motors facility in Milford, Trump cheered GM's plans to expand production domestically in coming years.
The president argued that his tariffs have helped GM, citing the company's production of vehicles such as the Corvette Z06 and Cadillac Escalade V. However, some businesses contend that the tariffs have actually hurt the state's economy.
Trump also touched on a range of topics during his speech, including the war in Iran and his administration's efforts to transform Washington D.C. He called on stage several Republican candidates, including gubernatorial candidate John James and Senate candidate Mike Rogers.
The visit comes as Trump faces growing criticism over his handling of the economy, with voters increasingly dissatisfied with his policies. The new round of tariffs imposed by Trump could further hurt Michigan's economy, which relies heavily on Canada.
