US President Donald Trump has called on the Federal Reserve to lower interest rates, arguing that they should decrease as the economy improves rather than rise due to inflation concerns.

In a statement at the White House, Trump said: 'We would really like to see interest rates come down.'

He claimed that in the past, when good economic numbers were announced, interest rates would typically decline. However, now they seem to increase instead.

The Federal Reserve has kept its benchmark interest rate steady this year and is set to make a decision on September 16.
