Trump Demands Rate Cuts as FOMC Prepares for Fifth Straight Meeting

President Donald Trump has once again intervened in monetary policy, directly demanding that the Federal Reserve lower its interest rates. Speaking from Air Force One, Trump stated that U.S. interest rates should be the lowest in the world and that interest rates have to come down. He criticized Fed Chair Kevin Warsh for being part of a 'board with extremely political members.'

The FOMC meeting is set to take place this week, with market participants expecting the central bank to hold rates steady due to persistent inflation concerns. The current federal funds rate target range is 3.50% to 3.75%. Trump's comments come as a backdrop of rising crude oil prices and escalating geopolitical risks.

Hawkish voices within the Fed are already cautioning against further easing, with Fed Governor Chris Waller warning that 'the Fed needs to be ready to move toward tightening at any time so as not to repeat the mistake of letting inflation reignite.'
