Warsh Set to Raise Rates as Oil Prices Soar Above $100

Fed Chair Kevin Warsh is expected to raise interest rates this week as inflation concerns grow. Oil prices have surged above $100 a barrel due to renewed tensions between Iran and the US, raising fears of increased energy costs feeding into inflation.

The probability of a quarter-point rate hike has climbed from below 10% last week to 36% on Friday, according to futures markets. Investors now expect one or two more hikes within nine months, with oil instability since the war began in late February contributing to this expectation.

Warsh's communications approach differs from his predecessor Jerome Powell, who provided forward guidance after each policy meeting. Warsh has advocated for a 'family fight' atmosphere at Fed meetings, where officials argue in private instead of announcing decisions before the meeting begins.
