Trump Ditches Tariffs on Irish Whiskey Amid Industry Rebound
U.S. President Donald Trump announced on Sunday, September 13, that he would lift tariffs on Irish whiskey exports to the United States.
The tariffs, which were implemented in August 2025, had been adding 10-15% to the cost of Irish whiskey sold in the U.S., and were seen as a major blow to the industry.
Irish whiskey exports had already been declining due to a weaker U.S. dollar, but the tariffs made it even harder for exporters to compete.
The lifting of the tariffs is expected to restore competitiveness to Irish whiskey in the U.S. market and support exporters who have been recovering from tariff-induced setbacks.
