Trump Presses On with Bid to Fire Fed Governor Lisa Cook Despite Supreme Court Ruling
President Trump is pushing forward with an attempt to fire Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook, despite a Supreme Court ruling in June that blocked his previous efforts. This move comes after Cook was informed by the White House that the president is 'considering' removing her from her role and has demanded she respond to unproven mortgage fraud allegations within three weeks.
Cook's lawyer, Abbe D. Lowell, called the allegations 'baseless' and stated that there is no valid cause for removing Cook from her position as a Fed governor.
The Supreme Court refused to allow Trump to fire Cook in June, standing firm against the Republican president's unprecedented challenge to the central bank's independence.
