U.S. President Donald Trump expressed respect for Federal Reserve Chairman Kevin Warsh in an Oval Office press conference on August 31, 2026.

'He'll do what he has to do' on interest rates, Trump said when asked about Warsh's comments on potential rate changes.

Warsh had stated that the Fed would 'have work to do' if policymakers didn't gain confidence in inflation falling to 2%. The current Personal Consumption Expenditures Price Index remains at 3.7% annually as of July, a figure that has been a focus for voters ahead of November's midterm elections.

Trump continued to advocate for lowering interest rates, saying 'we should pay, in my opinion, the lowest interest rates anywhere in the world by far.'
