Trump Renews Threats to Fire Federal Reserve Governor Over Mortgage Allegations
Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook has responded to renewed threats from the White House to fire her over allegations of mortgage fraud. The Trump administration claims that Cook declared two homes as 'primary residences' in mortgage applications, which can receive lower interest rates or down payments than second homes.
Cook denies the charges and says any errors were unintentional and do not justify her firing. Her attorneys argue that there is no legal basis for President Trump to remove her from the Fed's governing board.
The Supreme Court previously ruled that Cook could remain in her position while a case against her was litigated, but allowed Trump to try again if he provided proper notice and a chance to contest it.
