Trump Revives Bid to Fire Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook

Donald Trump has reignited his efforts to fire Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook after the Supreme Court blocked his initial attempt in June. The move comes as a response to Cook's criticism of the recent jobs report and her stance on fighting inflation.

Cook was nominated to the Fed's Board of Governors by President Joe Biden, but Trump has been trying to exert control over the nation's central bank. In August 2022, Bill Pulte, director of the Federal Housing Finance Agency, made a criminal referral accusing Cook of mortgage fraud for declaring two homes as her primary residence.

Cook has aggressively defended herself against the allegations, saying Trump attempted to oust her 'on a manufactured pretext because I refused to bow to political pressure and continued to set interest rates based only on what would best serve the American people.'

Abbe Lowell, Cook's attorney, stated that they had been expecting Trump to try again. 'If you know anything about President Trump... he doesn't take no for an answer whether the no is an advisor or the Supreme Court, so this is not a shock,' Lowell said.
