Trump Slams Federal Reserve Rate Hike Amid Inflation Worries
President Donald Trump expressed discontent with the Federal Reserve's decision to raise interest rates for the first time in over three years. The move aims to combat persistent inflation and higher energy prices, which have risen by more than 7% in the past month.
Trump argued that borrowing costs are already too high and called for them to be reduced 'FAST!' He claimed to have spoken with Federal Reserve Chair Kevin Warsh before the vote, stating that he told Warsh it wouldn't make a difference due to the board's hostility towards him.
However, Warsh emphasized the Fed's independence from the White House, saying its primary goal is to bring inflation under control. He attributed rising fuel costs to renewed conflict between the United States and Iran, which has driven up gasoline prices.
The Federal Reserve raised interest rates by a quarter of a percentage point, bringing them above 2% for the first time since 2008. This move may lead to higher credit card and auto loan expenses, as well as increased mortgage rates due to broader financial market changes.
