Trump Softens Tone on Fed, Acknowledges Board's Role in Rate Decisions

President Donald Trump has expressed his preference for lower interest rates, but acknowledged that it's not entirely up to Federal Reserve Chairman Kevin Warsh. In an interview with Punchbowl News, Trump stated that while it's 'up to him a little bit,' it's also the decision of the Fed board, which he described as 'very political.'

Trump's comments come after his previous criticisms of former Fed Chair Jerome Powell and current member Lisa Cook. He expressed a desire to return to a time when positive economic numbers led to lower interest rates, rather than higher ones.

This stance has raised concerns about Trump's attempts to influence central bank policy. However, a person familiar with the chats between Trump and Warsh reported that the two men have not discussed specific monetary policies.
