Trump Touts Economic Policies in Michigan Amid Tariff Concerns

President Donald Trump visited Michigan on Monday to defend his economic policies and tout their impact on the auto industry. He toured a General Motors facility in Milford, where he saw various models being tested and praised GM's plans to expand production domestically.

'I've done more for you than your parents,' Trump joked during the tour, adding that his tariffs have boosted production at the facility.

However, some businesses contend that Trump's tariffs have actually hurt Michigan's economy. Automakers have long said that tariffs increase the cost of doing business and lead to higher prices for consumers.

The new Canadian tariffs, which are set to take effect on dozens of U.S. trading partners, could particularly hurt Michigan's economy due to its reliance on Canada. The state's economy has already been affected by inflation and rising gas prices.
