Trump touts strong dollar as economic strength ahead of midterms
President Donald Trump has reiterated his support for a strong US dollar, emphasizing its benefits for the economy as the 2026 midterm elections approach. Speaking to Gray Media’s White House correspondent Jon Decker, Trump acknowledged the dollar’s strength against the euro but defended it as a positive indicator of economic health. He stated, "No, we have a very strong dollar. That’s because we’re doing well. You know, a strong dollar is good in many ways. In certain ways you could make a case that it slows things down, but a strong dollar gives you a lot of life. And by the way, you know, what a strong dollar does gives you no inflation."
The Trump administration continues to highlight economic reports that suggest a solid economy, despite polls showing that many Americans believe the economy is struggling. Rising prices at the gas pump and grocery stores remain a concern for many, even as the administration paints a picture of economic prosperity. Trump’s message is that the country is heading toward a "golden age of America," though this optimism is not universally shared among the public.
