Trump Voices Concern Over Weak Yen in Meeting with Japanese PM
US President Donald Trump expressed concern about Japan's weak yen during a recent summit meeting between the two leaders. According to Japanese Finance Minister Satsuki Katayama, Trump raised the issue with Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi in New York on Tuesday.
Katayama said that Trump was concerned about the yen's weakness and its impact on trade for the US. In response, Takaichi stated that an undervalued yen is problematic.
The discussion between the two leaders reaffirmed their shared stance behind their coordinated intervention in July to counter excessive volatility and disorderly movements in the yen. Katayama added that she and US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent would continue to communicate closely on foreign exchange matters.
