Trump Warns Carney: Canada's Economy and Politics Will Suffer
US President Donald Trump has issued a warning to Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney regarding potential severe repercussions for Canada's economy and politics. According to a post on Trump's Truth Social, Canadian politicians making him 'the enemy' could lead to a collapse of their economy.
This comes after the recent collapse of US-Canada trade talks. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick accused Carney of derailing a nearly completed trade deal for political reasons, claiming Ottawa introduced 'crazy ideas' in the final hours of negotiations.
Carney pushed back against these accusations during a news conference in Thunder Bay, questioning the expertise of 'unelected' US officials on Canadian politics. However, he maintained that a mutually beneficial trade deal with the US remains possible, adding that Ottawa is ready to negotiate whenever Washington is willing.
