Trump Warns Over Weak Yen as Tokyo and Washington Reaffirm Intervention Policy
Japanese Finance Minister Satsuki Katayama revealed on Friday that US President Donald Trump expressed concern over the yen's weakening during his meeting with Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi in New York. The bilateral summit at the UN headquarters took place on Tuesday.
Katayama said that Takaichi told Trump about the undervaluation of the yen, describing it as a general problem. In July, Japan and the US conducted coordinated yen-buying intervention for the first time in nearly 28 years to correct the weak yen.
Katayama stated that he and US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent have not ruled out further coordinated intervention, which was reaffirmed during the summit.
