Trump's Bid to Fire Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook Fails Again
Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook has responded to renewed threats from the White House, stating that President Trump has no legal basis to remove her from the central bank's governing board.
Cook was initially accused of mortgage fraud by the Trump administration last year and the Supreme Court ruled in June that she could remain in her position while the case is litigated. The justices also stated that Trump could try to fire Cook again with proper notice and a chance for her to contest it.
According to Cook's attorneys, Abbe Lowell and Norman Eisen, 'an inadvertent error is not fraud' and the attacks on Cook are an attempt by President Trump to force the Federal Reserve to bend to his will.
