US President Donald Trump recently attempted to reassure Americans about inflation by linking it to the ongoing conflict with Iran. According to Trump, inflation will effectively disappear once the war is over.

However, an analyst has pointed out a flaw in his argument. David Pakman noted that if Trump believes the war is contributing to inflation, then he is also acknowledging that a major policy pursued by his administration is contributing to the economic problem he promises to fix.

In July, the Federal Reserve reported that inflation rose sharply after energy prices surged following the start of the Middle East conflict. The report also found evidence that higher tariffs had contributed to increases in consumer-goods prices.
