Trump's Interest Rate Gamble Backfires as Federal Reserve Defies Him

President Donald Trump's plan to lower interest rates has been thwarted by his own handpicked Federal Reserve Chairman, Kevin Warsh. In a unanimous decision, the Fed voted to raise its benchmark rate by a quarter point, despite Trump's repeated demands for lower rates.

The move comes at an inconvenient time for Trump, with just over 50 days left until the midterm elections and cost of living concerns dominating American voters' minds.

Trump had previously attacked former Fed Chairman Jerome Powell, demanding that he lower interest rates to boost the economy. When Powell refused, Trump replaced him with Warsh, assuming that he would be more receptive to his demands.

However, in a stark contrast to Trump's expectations, Warsh argued that inflation remains stubbornly high and that raising rates is necessary to combat it.
