Trump's Secret Call Stuns White House Aides as Fed Raises Interest Rates

President Donald Trump surprised many of his closest advisers by having a secret phone call to Jerome Powell, the former Federal Reserve chair. This was unexpected because earlier in his second term, Trump publicly criticized Powell for refusing to cut interest rates.

In contrast, when Powell's successor, Kevin Warsh, raised interest rates for the first time in three years on Wednesday, many expected a negative reaction from Trump. However, it appears that Trump had spoken to Warsh ahead of the decision, and his response was more measured than anticipated.

When asked about the situation by reporters, Trump stated that he told Warsh, 'You might as well vote with the board because it's not going to matter.'
