President Trump's 50% tariffs on $20 billion in Canadian goods have sparked division among Republicans, with some senators warning that the trade war will increase costs for consumers. The tariffs took effect over the weekend after trade negotiations between the U.S. and Canada collapsed.

Critics of the tariffs include Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine), who called them 'a mistake' in an interview with News Center Maine. Collins warned that if Canadian goods return with a huge tariff, it will increase costs for eating, building homes, and buying products.

Not all Republicans share Collins' concerns, however. Sen. Bernie Moreno (R-Ohio) defended Trump's position, arguing that 'Canada's economy only exists by stealing American jobs.'
