Trump's Trade War with Canada Rattles Key Senate Battlegrounds

President Donald Trump's ongoing trade war with Canada is causing concern for Republican senators in states with key Senate races, particularly those along the US-Canada border.

The dispute began over the weekend after negotiations broke down, leading to increased tariffs on $20 billion worth of Canadian imports. Canada plans to retaliate by imposing its own tariffs on Tuesday, which could lead to higher prices and supply chain disruptions for Americans already frustrated with Trump's handling of the economy.

Republican Senator Susan Collins of Maine, a key target for Democrats in this year's midterm elections, warned that the fallout from Trump's approach would hurt US businesses and consumers. She cited lobsters, blueberries, lumber, and other Maine products that are exported to Canada.

Collins' Democratic opponent, Troy Jackson, accused her of not doing enough to stand up to Trump. Jackson, a former state legislative leader and logger who has worked along the Canadian border, said tariffs are just another example of Collins failing to represent Maine's economic interests.
