TSX Bounces Back with Tech Stocks Leading the Way
The TSX composite index finished the week in positive territory on Friday, closing at 35,800.89 after gaining nearly 100 points.
Adam Ludwick, director of asset allocation at NEI Investments, attributed the bright spot to technology stocks, which saw a gain of about nine percent this week.
Ludwick also pointed out that Bank of Canada governor Tiff Macklem's recent speech highlighted a more nuanced view of the Canadian economy compared to previous statements from the central bank. In his speech, Macklem mentioned that the unpredictability of U.S. trade policy has increased uncertainty for businesses and could potentially slow down the economy.
The TSX finished the week slightly lower than its opening point, but the market remains resilient despite concerns about potential interest rate hikes and a slowdown in growth due to the ongoing trade dispute with the United States.
