TSX composite loses 224 points amid basic materials slump
Canada's main stock index, the S&P/TSX composite, took a hit on Wednesday, losing over 200 points. The losses were mainly driven by the basic materials sector.
The S&P/TSX composite index closed at 35,235.87, down 224.40 points from the previous day. In contrast, US markets showed mixed results with the Dow Jones industrial average falling and the Nasdaq composite rising.
The Canadian dollar also saw a slight dip against the US dollar, trading at 70.24 cents US compared to 70.48 cents US on Tuesday.
