TSX Edges Up as Oil Prices Fall and Tech Gains Boost Sentiment
The TSX opened marginally higher on Monday, driven by gains in technology shares. The index poked ahead 2.64 points to open at 35,809.29.
Oil prices took a hit, falling over 3%, which boosted sentiment and contributed to the modest gain. Investors are also awaiting remarks from Bank of Canada Governor Tiff Macklem for cues on future policy direction.
The Canadian dollar slipped 0.12 cents to 71.49 cents. The commodity-heavy TSX benchmark is up nearly 13% so far this year, outperforming the S&P 500's 11.8% gain.
