TSX Ends in Negative Territory as Basic Materials Sector Declines
Canada's main stock index, the S&P/TSX composite, ended in negative territory on October 1, 2026. The index fell by 81.11 points to close at 35,154.76.
The losses were largely due to a decline in the basic materials sector.
In contrast, U.S. markets gained ground, with the Dow Jones industrial average rising by 20.51 points to 50,926.56.
The Canadian dollar also weakened against the US dollar, trading at 70.21 cents compared to 70.48 cents on Tuesday.
