TSX Fails to Gain Momentum Amidst Slight Oil Price Dip
The TSX barely cleared its breakeven point on Monday, opening only slightly higher. The benchmark index gained 2.64 points to start the day at 35,809.29. This marginal increase was largely driven by gains in technology shares.
The Canadian dollar also saw a slight dip of 0.12 cents to 71.49 cents US. Despite this, the commodity-heavy TSX remains up nearly 13% so far this year, outperforming the S&P 500's 11.8% gain.
Market participants are awaiting remarks from Bank of Canada Governor Tiff Macklem for clues on future policy direction. The TSX Venture Exchange, meanwhile, lost 5.89 points to begin the day at 917.18.
