TSX Falls as Canada's Economy Stalls and Trade Tensions Escalate
The S&P/TSX Composite Index fell to 35,388.37 on Tuesday, down 101.49 points or 0.29% from Monday's close of 35,489.86.
The downturn came as data showed Canada's economy stalled in July, with the gross domestic product remaining unchanged after three consecutive months of growth.
Commodity prices also pulled in different directions, with crude oil falling to $91.66 a barrel and gold recovering some of its losses from Monday.
The US-Canada trade dispute weighed on Canadian stocks, with a ban on nearly $1 billion of Canadian imports coming into effect on Tuesday.
