TSX Futures Fall as Oil Prices Surge Ahead of Key Economic Data
The TSX started the week on a downbeat note as futures tracking Canada's main stock index fell. The decline was largely due to surging oil prices, which revived inflation worries ahead of key Canadian and US economic data releases later this week.
Futures for the TSX were down 0.5% Monday morning, while the Canadian dollar eased by 0.04 cents to 70.61 cents U.S. Brent crude futures gained nearly 4% to about $108.25 a barrel after US President Donald Trump rejected an Iran peace deal.
In company news, International Petroleum repurchased 148,500 shares last week under its normal course issuer bid, continuing its share buyback program.
