TSX Futures Soar on Fed's Inflation Reaffirmation
Fed's stance on inflation drives TSX futures up 0.7%.
The US Federal Reserve reaffirmed its commitment to combating inflation, pushing Canadian stock market futures higher on Thursday. The S&P/TSX index September futures rose by this morning, in line with global markets.
Asian stocks were broadly higher, Europe's STOXX 600 was up 0.5%, and S&P 500 futures gained 0.8%. Charu Chanana, chief investment strategist at Saxo, said the markets are seeing a 'credibility-relief' trade after Fed reinforced its commitment to reining in inflation.
The market is pricing in about a 53% chance of another rate hike at the Fed's October meeting, per CME Group's FedWatch tool. Gold prices rose on Thursday after hitting a near six-week low in the previous session.
