TSX Jumps 349 Points Amid Resilient Economy and Oil Export Hope
The Toronto Stock Exchange (TSX) bounced back on Friday, rising by nearly 350 points to close at 35,502.65 after a week of fluctuations.
Anish Chopra, managing director with Portfolio Management Corp., said the TSX's resilience is a testament to Canada's strong economy despite ongoing trade tensions and higher bond yields.
The Canadian economy has been 'doing quite well' despite these challenges, but markets are still grappling with the implications of a higher interest rate environment on economic growth, credit, and valuations, according to Chopra.
The TSX's recovery was also influenced by Prime Minister Mark Carney's announcement that the Pacific Link pipeline project is designated as a project in the national interest under the Building Canada Act, which could improve Canadian oil sales.
