TSX Rises Amid Mixed US Markets

Canada's main stock index, the S&P/TSX composite, saw a significant increase on Tuesday morning, driven by strength in technology stocks. The index rose by 85.27 points to reach 35,653.41.

In contrast, U.S. stock markets were mixed. The Dow Jones industrial average gained 520.33 points to stand at 52,730.41, while the S&P 500 index increased by just 15.31 points to 7,428.49. However, the Nasdaq composite declined by 76.36 points to 24,855.72.

The Canadian dollar strengthened against the US dollar, trading at 70.93 cents compared to 70.85 cents on Monday. Meanwhile, oil prices were down, with the September crude oil contract decreasing by $2 to $80.61 per barrel. The August gold contract also fell, dropping by $47.40 to $4,029.60 an ounce.
