TSX Soars Over 300 Points Amid Mixed US Markets
The S&P/TSX composite index rose significantly on Tuesday, driven by gains in basic materials and technology stocks. The index was up 326.21 points at 36,335.61.
In contrast, U.S. markets posted mixed results. The Dow Jones industrial average declined by 185.14 points to 51,863.69, while the S&P 500 index fell by just 0.06 points to 7,764.64. However, the Nasdaq composite was up 122.18 points at 27,244.28.
The Canadian dollar also fluctuated, trading at 71.10 cents US compared to 71.32 cents US on Monday. Oil prices dipped, with the November crude oil contract decreasing by $1.85 to $90.52 per barrel. Similarly, gold prices fell, with the December gold contract dropping by $7.50 to $4,376.40 an ounce.
