TSX Surges on Resilient Economy Amid Trade Tensions
The TSX composite index rose nearly 350 points on Friday to close at 35,502.65 after a week of mixed performances.
According to Anish Chopra, managing director with Portfolio Management Corp., the Canadian economy has been 'doing quite well' despite ongoing trade tensions and is 'holding up better than many feared in some areas.'
The rebound was attributed to investors evaluating the resilience of the domestic economy amid higher bond yields and heightened trade tensions.
Chopra noted that the bigger story this week has been the impact of higher global yields on Canadian equities, which have weighed heavily on financials and rate-sensitive sectors.
