UK Diesel Prices Hit Record Highs Amid Ongoing War Tensions

UK diesel prices have reached record highs due to the ongoing US-Israeli war on Iran. The cost of a liter of diesel is now 199.18 pence, surpassing the previous high of 199.09 pence in June 2022.

The RAC's head of policy, Simon Williams, noted that only a sustained lower oil price over several weeks will lead to cheaper prices at the pumps. He also suggested that the government could take steps to ease the burden on drivers by lowering fuel duty further or reducing VAT.

Fuel prices are one of the key drivers of UK inflation, which hit a five-month high in August. The RAC data shows that the UK is tied with Italy for the seventh-highest diesel prices among 15 European countries.
