UK Economy Surges Ahead of G7 Peers Despite Energy Price Pressures
The UK economy has grown faster than previously thought in the second quarter of this year, solidifying its position as the fastest-growing G7 economy. According to data released by the Office for National Statistics (ONS), economic output expanded by 0.5% in the April-to-June period.
This reading was slightly stronger than a preliminary estimate of 0.4% growth in gross domestic product (GDP). Economists had expected this figure to be confirmed, but it actually rose to 1.4% higher than a year ago, revised up from an initial 1.2% estimate.
The data points to strength across the economy, with output rising in manufacturing, construction, and services sectors. Business investment growth was also revised up to an annual rate of 5.2%, significantly higher than the initial estimate of 0.8%.
