UK Inflation Hits 3.1% Amid Soaring Gasoline and Diesel Prices

The UK's annual inflation rate has jumped to 3.1% in August, driven by surging gasoline and diesel prices. This marks the first inflation reading above 3% since March.

The Office for National Statistics (ONS) reported that the average price of gasoline rose by 9.1 pence ($0.12) per liter between July and August, putting average prices at their highest since November 2022.

Average diesel prices also saw a significant increase, rising by 14.2 pence per liter in August. This increase is largely attributed to the government-regulated price cap on energy costs being revised sharply upward.
