UK Inflation Hits 5-Month High Amid Fuel Price Hikes
UK inflation has risen to its highest level in five months, fueled by increasing fuel prices and airfares. The Office for National Statistics reported that consumer prices index rose to 3.1% in August from 2.9% the month before.
The increase puts pressure on the Bank of England to raise interest rates again over coming months. The Bank's target inflation rate is 2%, and the current rate is further away from this goal than it was previously.
Rising fuel prices were a major contributor to the inflation increase, with airfares also playing a significant role. These price hikes are likely a result of ongoing tensions in the Middle East, particularly the Iran war, which has had an impact on global oil markets.
